ETNA MARATHON

UCI Marathon Series

 

  1. ORGANISATION

    The Mongibello MTB team are organizing the 13th edition of the Etna Marathon race in collaboration with Milo local council on Saturday, 14th September 2019.

    The event is organized under the umbrella of the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) and the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI) in accordance with the ‘Executive Regulations’ issued for 2019 by the National Technical Off-road section.
    The race is valid for the following circuits:

    Etna Marathon km 80

    • UCI MARATHON SERIES – Internazionale C3
    • FCI COPPA SICILIA XCM/GF

    Etna Marathon Gran Fondo Km 46

    • FCI COPPA SICILIA XCM/GF
  2. THE COURSE

    There will be three courses:

    • MARATHON: Km. 78 with 2750 vertical gain
    • GRAN FONDO: km. 45 with 1620 vertical gain
    • EXURSION: km. 23 with 810 vertical gain
  3. CATEGORIES

    All Italian citizens and foreigners, both male and female, in possession of a valid membership for both amateur and professional cycling for 2019 issued by the FCI or any foreign federation which adheres to the UCI. or Sports Promotion Board or to the National Conference of Cycling (UISP, AICS ENDAS, ACLI, CSI, etc).

    Non-competitive participants (escursionists) may also participate only on the Escursion or Gran Fondo course as long as they present a medical certificate of basic fitness.

  4. START TIME

    Start and Finish at Piazza Belvedere, Milo

    • UCI Marathon: 09:00am
    • Gran Fondo, Excursion: 9.15am
  5. STARTING BLOCKS

     

    • 1st grid Marathon white race numbers 1 to 100: Open category M/F UCI and FCI athletes,
    • 2nd grid Marathon white race numbers 101 to 300: the top 3 riders in each category of the Coppa Sicilia MX/GF, all female riders and the first 70 registered in chronological order
    • 3rd  grid Marathon white race numbers 301 to 700: All FCI and other amateurs registered for the Marathon course
    • 4th grid Gran Fondo blue race numbers 701 to 900: Men/Women Junior, all female riders and the first 70 registered in chronological order
    • 5th grid Gran Fondo blue race numbers 901 to 1400: All licensed and not licensed amateurs (FCI etc.) registered for the Gran Fondo course
    • 6th grid Excursion green race numbers 1401 to 1600: All riders registered for the Excursion course

    Entry to the grid will be allowed 40 minutes before departure

  6. CLASSIFICATION

    Classification will be based on the order of arrival.

  7. TIME LIMITS

    Marathon:

    • Turn-off Marathon/Gran Fondo km 24 – 11.45pm
    • Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi km 35 – 1.15pm
    • Arrival in Milo km 80 – 5.00pm

    If cyclists arrive at the gates outside of the maximum time allowed, their number bibs will be removed. No exceptions will be made under any circumstances. Participants may continue by bike without bib number or take a lift back to Milo.

  8. RACE REGISTRATION

    Online registration is open on Etna Marathon  website from 12.00am 8th December 2018 to 11.59pm 12nd  September 2019
    Registration in Milo is open on Friday, 13th September from 12pm – 8pm. Registration on Saturday is not allowed. Registrations will close once 1.000 participants is reached.

  9. RACE REGISTRATION FORM

    Online:  Registration form.
    Registration forms will only be considered valid after payment.
    Participants must choose the course at the time of registration

    • UCI Marathon – (FCI and UCI athletes and amateurs registered with FCI or other bodies
    • Gran Fondo (amateurs registered with FCI and other bodies and not registered with sporting bodies, 17+)
    • Excursion (all bikers who are not registered with a cycling body such as FCI)

    Registration can be checked at any time in the “Entry check” section of the site

    FCI members must also register through the K-factor (http://fci.ksport.kgroup.eu/Fci/) through their sports club membership, otherwise registration will not be accepted.

  10. ENTRY FEES

    * The categories Open and Junior Male/Female are exempt from paying entry fees and will not be entitled to the race goodie bag.

  11. PAYMENT

  12. CANCELLATIONS

    The cancellation of participation will be considered valid only if communicated via email to iscrizioni@etnamarathonmtb.it by 31/08/2019. In case of cancelling before the race, the entry fee will be valid for the year 2020. Cancellations will not be accepted after 31/08/2019. A refund of the entry fee will not be made under any circumstances. If a cyclist who has already registered is unable to attend Etna Marathon 2020 for any reason, there will be no refund of the registration fee and there will be no goodie bag given. If for any reason the participant cannot take part in the 2020 edition, there will be no refund.

  13. CHANGE OF COURSE AND REPLACEMENTS

    Any registered participant who wants to change from Marathon/Gran Fondo/ Excursion course or vice versa must communicate this by email to iscrizioni@etnamarathonmtb.it by 31/08/2019. After 31/08/2019 €10 fee will be request for administration cost.

    You can replace a participant with another one. This must be communicate by email to iscrizioni@etnamarathonmtb.it by 31/08/2019. A €10 fee will be request for administration cost. After 31/08/2019  replacements won’t be possible.

  14. DOCUMENT CHECK AND GOODIE BAG COLLECTION

     

    • Friday 21/09: 12pm to 8pm
    • Saturday 22/09  7am to 8.00am

    in the service centre under Piazza Belvedere (main square), Milo.

  15. RACE SERVICES

    Medical care (doctor and ambulance), mechanical assistance at the start and on the course, 7 feed zones on the Marathon course, 3 feed zones on the Gran Fondo course and 1 feed zone on the Excursion course. There will also be a final feed zone on arrival in Milo where there will also be massages, showers and bike wash.

  16. RACE KIT/GOODIE BAG

    Every contestant will get a goodie bag containing various items such as typical products from the region, informative literature and other merchandise. At the moment the final contents have yet to be confirmed.

  17. RACE NUMBERS

    Each participant will be given a number to attach to the front of the bike. Numbers must be clearly visible and legible at all times during the race. Any participant found tampering with the numbers will be disqualified.

  18. TEAM MANAGERS MEETING

    Friday 13/09 in the Museo Multimediale – Milo at 7pm

  19. FEED ZONES

    The following feed zones will be operating until the following times:

    1. Serra Buffa – km. 11 – 4:30 pm
    2. Località Casa del Fanciullo – Km. 21 – 12:00 pm
    3. Piano Provenzana – Km. 31 – 1:00 pm
    4. Chalet Clan dei Ragazzi – Km. 35.5 – 2:00 pm
    5. Grotta delle Palombe – Km. 43 – 2:30 pm
    6. Zappinazzo – Km. 54 – 3:30 pm
    7. Serra Buffa – Km. 63 – 4:30 pm
    8. Monte Caliato – Km 71 – 5 pm
    9. Milo (final feed zone) – Km. 78 – 5:30 pm
  20. MECHANICAL ASSISTANCE

    Mechanical Assistance will be available at the following places at the following times:

    • Milo (start) 8 am – 9:00 am
    • Piano Provenzana 11 am – 1 pm

    Assistance and bike repairs can be carried out here however any spare parts or cost of materials shall be borne by the participants.

  21. PRIZES
    • UCI Marathon
      Top 10 men and Top 10 women overall: trophies
      Top 5 Open M/F: cash prizes according to the UCI rules.
      Top 5 in other categories: trophies
    • Gran Fondo
      Top 5 men and women overall: trophies
      Top 3 in each category: trophies
    • Excursion
      Top 5: trophies

    The prizes will be awarded to the winners at the prize-giving ceremony. Prizes cannot be transferred or dispatched after the event.

  22. SAFETY MEASURES

    Helmets are obligatory for the entire duration of the race for safety reasons. Riders who do not wear a helmet will be disqualified. The course partly includes public , roads and therefore the Italian traffic code is to be observed as well as the general UCI and FCI rules for mountain bike competitions. Non-observance of these regulations will lead to disqualification

  23. EQUIPMENT

    The race takes place on high mountain terrain where the weather conditions can change very quickly and unexpectedly. Each rider must be prepared for this and carry suitable clothing for cold weather, rain and possibly snow.

  24. NATURE CONSERVANCY

    Littering and leaving behind waste along the course is not permitted. Waste bins will be placed next to the feed zones for all rubbish. Those who do not respect this rule shall be disqualified immediately.

  25. COMPLAINTS

    Protests must be submitted to the jury in writing not later than 30 minutes after the race classification has been published accompanied by the protest fee (as per FCI regulations) which will be refunded should the protest be upheld.

  26. MODIFICATIONS

    Amendments to the rules, route and vertical climb profile can be made by the race organizer at any time. All information will be made public through the website which is the official channel of communication of the event.

  27. CANCELLATION OF THE RACE

    The event will take place in all weather conditions. In case of very bad weather the FCI Technical Delegate, in agreement with the Chairman of the Board of Commissioners and the Head of the Organization, may decide to reduce the course length. If, for reasons of force majeure, the event does not take place, the registration fee, will neither be refunded nor transferred to the following year. All details, will be published on the internet or on-site during the race.

  28. GENERAL RULES

    The UCI and FCI 2019 off-road regulations will cover any matters not covered by these rules and shall be subject to the implementation of the latter. Participation is at your own risk. By registering (even at the hands of third parties) competitors waiver any rights, including third party rights, in relation to the Organizing Association and all physical and legal persons of other organizations involved in the event.

  29. SIGNATURE

    By signing and submitting the registration form, you declare to be in possession of a valid cycling membership card, that you have read the rules and consent to the use of data in accordance with the provisions of Legislative Decree no. 196/03 (Privacy Act). Furthermore the participant agrees that pictures and shoots made to participants and kids during the race can be used by the organizing committee for marketing and publishing activities.
