The 7th edition of the Etna Marathon, organised by the Mongibello MTB team
and the local council in Milo, will kick off on the 22nd September 2013.
The race will start and finish in this beautiful mountain town and this
year will see some of the best riders in Italy battling it out for the
tricolour jersey in the 'Campione Italiano Marathon'.
The race takes place on Mount Etna on the Parco dell’Etna trails.
There are two new features to this year’s race: an extra uphill climb
called Grotta dei Ladroni and an extra 4km on top of the previous 14km of
downhill singletrack. The total race distance will therefore be 78km with
climbs of up to 2800m.
The race registration opens on 20th February and can be completed online
through the new-look Etna Marathon website at www.etnamarathonmtb.it.
For those who are interested, the race organisers will have a stand at Bici
Fi festival fiorentino della bicicletta, from the 1st to the 3rd of March.
They’ve also teamed up with the great Divinus Bike Clivus race, in
Monte forte d’Alponeto. This race twinning offers all Sicilian bikers the
chance to register for free for the Divinus while bikers from Veneto can
register for half-price for the Etna Marathon. This initiative hopes to
build a bridge connecting riders from the north and the south and to
promote more MTB riding in general.
